The following information relates to my scope of practice.
HIP
Jarome trained at the world renowned Exeter hip unit. He performs hip replacement surgery for arthritis as well as revision surgery. Revision hip surgery maybe required for recurrent dislocations, implant wear and failure as well as infection. Jarome has a particular interest in the latter and works closely alongside the infectious diseases unit at Middlemore Hospital in the management of periprosthetic joint infections. While in Exeter, he underwent training in MAKO robot assisted hip surgery.
KNEE
Jarome is fellowship trained in the use of navigation and robot assisted knee replacement surgery (MAKO). He performs total, partial and patellofemoral knee replacements. Where patients are young or have labour intensive jobs and painful arthritis, he may consider knee preservation surgery. This involves cutting and realigning the tibia (HTO) or femur (DFO) to offload the painful side of the knee. Jarome also performs patella stabilisation surgery for repeated knee cap dislocations or instability in adults.
TRAUMA
Jarome holds a consultant position at Auckland's busiest orthopaedic trauma unit, Middlemore hospital. He has extensive experience and subspecialty training in the management of upper and lower limb orthopaedic injuries as well as pelvic and acetabular trauma. This includes fractures that have not healed (nonunions) or have healed crooked (malunions).
MAKING A REFERRAL
Referrals can be made via email, SReferrals or healthlink. Kindly include the patients details, ACC number or private insurance information, a brief history as well as any imaging reports. X-rays done prior to consultation ensure expedient patient review.
